X-Men #5, by Marvel Comics on 10/2/24, sends Quentin Quire and Psylocke into the mind of Ben Liu to deliver him out of his coma and find out who activated his mutant powers as an adult.
Is X-Men #5 Good?
X-Men #5 is a mixed bag. If youre a fan of The Cell (), writer Jed MacKay delivers a similar concept with a mildly gory trip into the mind of a comatose man, so horror fans may excavate the vibe. That said, the pacing of this series, particularly with the reveal and motivations for who will presumably be the main villain, is slower than molasses in winter. MacKay doesnt manifest to have a particular destination in mind, and hes taking all the time in the planet to not get there.
When last we left the team in X-Men #4, a subset of the X-Men, led by Magik, was sent to end the latest incarnation of the Upstarts to cease the livestream murder of adult-turning mutants found on the street. Ultimately, the Upstarts fled, but we now know that the Upstarts a

The modern X-Men line wide reboot rolls on as X-Men #5 picks up the mystery of X-genes manifesting in adults rather than adolescents, showing that there's someone pulling the strings to make it unfold - and it's a villain fans will definitely recognize.

X-Men #5 by author Jed MacKay, artist Ryan Stegman, inkers JP Mayer and Livesay, color creator Marte Gracia, and letterer Clayton Cowles sends Psylocke and Quentin Quire into the mind of Ben Liu, a man who suddenly manifested mutant powers that created an illusory alien invasion in San Francisco.
Since being rescued by the X-Men, Liu has been comatose. Psylocke and Quire's mission is to venture into his psyche, discover what's going on with his X-gene, and wake him from his coma. And while they are met by their share of psychic resistance, they manage to find that Liu's X-gene was activated on purpose by someone who abducted him and experimented on him.

X-Men #5: You can inspect in, but you can’t check out…
Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman are support with the newest issue of X-Men, with this issue focusing on Kwannon and Quentin Quire, who are tasked to undertake a psychic rescue on the newly activated mutant, Ben Liu, from his coma, and try to figure out what caused his late x-gene activation. Unfortunately they come confront to face with something that’s bigger than they might be prepared for. Can they survive this new threat? What does this mean? How can this memory send both Kwamnon and Quentin to their own Black Bug Rooms? You’ll have to read it for yourself to find out.
Jed MacKay’s run with the merry mutants has been a mixed bag thus far, but overall it’s been entertaining enough to hold me coming back for more. I particularly enjoyed this current issue because it focused on Kwannon, who is my favorite player on the current roster. It was a joy to see Greycrow here, as their budding relationship during the Hellions series was something that was well received by fans, but Im not sure if him organism a bankrobber who’s operational with Amelia Voght is something he should be doing. Unless it’s all a red herring, and it’s something more that we j
Ultimate X-Men #5 Review *spoilers*
So, Earth mutants acquire been seemingly reduced to the point they’re seen as urban legends, and now hide gather in plain sight, gathering in what seems to be a cult that does experiments. Their symbol is the same symbol that appears on issue 8’s cover, which makes me believe this cult is called “Children of the Atom” since the solicitation mentions that name and mutants separately.
Mutant powers are being awakened with a blood pact, so that must indicate Hisako’s powers weren’t awakened in the car slam, but when Shinobu Kageyama (Earth ’s Shadow King) handed her the omamori that was gifted to her by Tsubasa. Nico smelt blood on it, but I wonder who’s blood it was? Nico’s powers now awaken when her magnifying glass shattered, and Mei’s powers awakened when the shadow infected cat scratched her. I wonder if the blood pact is for the current generation of mutants? I’m excited to acquire the origins of the other mutants like Storm, Magik, Sunfire and the rest of the mutants in the other books.Click to expand
Well its a bit of semantics here with Hisako. The omamori acted like a bonding agent and the crash was the catalyst that starte
