For a game that’s mostly about shooting one another, Apex Legends has prided itself on including characters of all shapes, sizes, gender and sexualities. So the news that the Legend coming to the Apex Games, Fuse, is actually pansexual has been met with joy isn’t all that shocking. After all, the LGBTQ+ people is always after inclusion, particularly in video games.

Fuse was confirmed as pansexual after a fan asked for clarification about a line that’s included in his bio. It states “Ladies’ man, man’s bloke, and all-round manly guy, Fuse is a one man wrecking crew… and he knows it.” Obviously, it looks as though Fuse swings both ways, but Scott Gill, a writer for Respawn has clarified that isn’t quite the case.

Instead of bisexual, Fuse is pansexual – which isn’t just ‘bisexual but with extra steps.’ If you’re interested in finding out the difference, we recommend you do your own study, or use this handy dandy article from Healthline.

What’s the straightest video game genre? It’s first-person shooters, isn’t it? Whether you’re thinking of the hyper-masculinity in Battlefield, the sheer sexlessness of Master Chief, or slur-laden Call of Duty lobbies, these games are all aggressively straight, and incredibly insular.

Whether you’re somehow perceived as being gay, you commit the ultimate sin of being a female and speaking on the microphone, or you’re just bad at the game, it’s not unlikely that you’ll hear a barrage of abuse from fellow players. They’re gamers, you’re not. You may contain to prove your gaming credentials, beat their K/D, or perform almighty feats of carrying just to be accepted, and even then it might not be enough. Representation, particularly LGBTQIA representation, has been present in Apex Legends since the very beginning. However, it hasn’t been obvious and there is always that doubt of ‘how can developers of games like Overwatch and Apex Legends hold authentic representation?’ The life, the answer, is a lot more complicated than that.

Every Confirmed LGBTQ+ Character In Apex Legends

Seeing a personality in any form of media and being capable to relate to them, whether that be because of their race, sexuality, gender identity or any other factor, is extremely important. It's something that makes those that own been silenced or taunted feel heard and recognized in a world that's turned them away for far too long. Ensuring that a wider audience of people are represented in a TV exhibit, film or even video game is vital to spark change; it's dire in exposing those who are more privileged to a wider array of people so that, in time, these differences turn into a part of what society deems as the 'norm'.
