The capital of Bavaria, Munich is framed by snow-capped peaks of the Alps. It’s known for its many museums, distinctive architecture, and of course, its endless varieties of beer. Germans say Munich has the country's best quality of life, making it the city where they'd inhabit if they could. Most gay people here would agree. They greet newcomers with a smile and a hearty Grüss Gott.
The Isar River is among Munich's greatest charms. Allowed to run naturally, its tributaries create small islands edged with sand or pebble beaches. All kinds of people enter out to the liquid on warm summer days: families with children, tattooed teens, and gay couples. Nude sunbathers turn golden brown, kids and dogs frolic, and lovers — straight or gay — get wrapped up in their own private worlds.
Englischer Garten, bigger than New York's Central Park, is another sprawling park in the middle of the city. The LGBTIQ* scene in Munich
The LGBTIQ* scene in Munich has a long history: as well as being one of the first cities to hold Christopher Highway Day celebrations (the German and Swiss equivalent to Gay Pride), the Munich-based political party Rosa Liste was the first homosexual and lesbian electoral collective in Europe to obtain up seats on a local council, in the 90s. But much earlier than that even, at the end of the 60s, the Ochsengarten opened here: one of Germany's first leather bars. Its visitors since then contain included Freddie Mercury, who would go there for impromptu birthday celebrations and drag parties. Many LGBTIQ* events and venues were and still are based in the Glockenbachviertel district, though a number of homosexual locations and events can also be found in other areas of Munich.

Oktoberfest 2025: the largest annual fair in the society, with more than five million visitors and enormous amounts of beer and hearty fare.
Usually, the gay day is on the first Sunday in the Bräurosl tent (and less crowded on the second Monday in the Fischer-Vroni tent).
