listen y’all, gay men asking for respect from content creators who aren’t lgbtq+ men but choose to write about gay men anyway isn’t the moment for you to proceed , ‘but creator of x gay male narrative is a woman, so why should it matter if she wants her writing to cater to what she thinks her women readers might want?’
it matters because she chose to write about gay men, and real life same-sex attracted men are going to be reading those narratives and internalizing anything harmful in them, and unbent people are going to be reading those narratives and projecting whatever harmful things they see assist onto gay men in their lives.
we’re not asking you to stop writing gay male stories. we’re asking you to compose gay male stories that don’t degrade gay men in the process, that respect our humanity, that gives us the narratives we deserve
